Whether your teeth have always been misaligned or your teeth shifted as you aged, Invisalign® might be a solution for you. Many adults want a straight smile but don’t want the inconveniences of traditional braces and brackets on their teeth. At Stroope Orthodontics, we offer a variety of orthodontic solutions, including Invisalign, in Springdale and Farmington.
In this blog post, we discuss a few attributes that prompt some adults to choose Invisalign over braces.
Less Noticeable
Invisalign treatment consists of clear aligners that fit snugly over your teeth. They’re custom-made for your unique smile and gradually shift your teeth to the appropriate position. Since they’re clear, they aren’t as noticeable as metal braces. Adults that would feel self-conscious about how braces would affect their appearance can worry less with clear aligners!
Removeable When Needed
You should wear your aligners at least 20 to 22 hours per day, every day. This ensures your teeth are being continuously straightened and your treatment can progress in a timely manner. However, you can remove them for special events, like a wedding, family pictures, or job interview.
Fewer Food Restrictions
With standard braces, you have restrictions on what you consume. For instance, you should avoid corn on the cob, foods that are especially chewy and hard, and biting into an apple. With Invisalign, there are fewer food restrictions since you remove your aligners to eat. However, you must brush your teeth before replacing your aligners. So it’s best to avoid foods, like caramel and taffy, that are difficult to remove even with brushing.
Some Patients May Experience Faster Results
Although individual results vary, most adults only require clear aligners for 12-18 months. Average treatment time for traditional braces may take anywhere from 12-24 months.
Less Irritation
Clear aligners are smooth and comfortable. Some patients experience mouth discomfort and irritation with braces, especially after they are tightened. Fortunately, some of the irritation caused by braces can be alleviated with orthodontic wax.
